I serve as Director of the Texas A&M Engineering Big Data Initiative. Faculty in the College of Engineering are active in many areas in which Big Data / Data Science is emerging as a central part. My role is to foster community building and collaboration across foundational and applications domains, help focus on external opportunities, and to raise our external profile in this area.
Here are some recently completed activities in Big Data at Texas A&M that I initiated or organized with others:
- Texas A&M Big Data Workshops in 2015 and 2016.
- Texas A&M Engineering supported the Texas A&M Conference on Advances in Big Data Modeling, Computation and Analytics, held in September 2016:
- The Texas A&M Seed Grant Program for Interdisciplinary Big Data Research has funded 7 collaborations during 2016.
- Texas A&M supported the NSF South Big Data Regional Innovation Hubs and recently received an award under the associated Big Data Spokes program, in the area of Big Data for Smart Grids.
